We are addicts...

ree

We are addicts. Yes you and me, all of us addicts. The realisation is the first step.  We are addicted to so so so many things. We are great at judging others for theirs without identifying our own  The biggest addiction is the mind, we are addicted to our mind and through it we are addicted to phones, alcohol, sex, drugs, prescription medications, gaming, exercise, laziness, grumpiness TV, food, stress, smoking, social media, gambling, work, sugar, ultra processed foods, shopping, getting old, drama, conflict, validation, approval, body image, being right, attachment, distraction, made up love, consumption, our made up stories…and on and on and on.  It’s a sobering thought when we really think about it.

Basically, it is all about our brain and how the reward system work and how we have used it and programmed it in our life.

So, we need to reflect and begin to try to break some of these none serving behaviours for our health and well-being.  We need to

1.        acknowledge our behaviour honestly.

2.       understand what triggers our addiction.

3.       commit to the change we want to see.

4.       remove access to temptation through changing our environment, where we are, what we do, where

we go.

5.       seek support from people who are doing their own letting go work.

6.       give yourself healthy rewards that make you feel good and is good for your health and wellbeing.

7.      heal the root cause of the addiction (pain, trauma, stress, emptiness, loneliness) remember your

addiction is a probably a solution that had long outlived its support.

8. create our balanced lifestyle *movement, stillness, creativity, mood stabilisation, relationships,

service, self-care etc.

9.      maintain and grow from here.  Expect setbacks and be curious about these when they happen, use

them as learning not failure.

10.  dive deep into our yoga & meditation practice to help us surf over the peaks of cravings when they

come.
