I am… yogi, mum, partner, friend, sister, daughter and grand mama. I wanted to create a vegan cook book to carry on my wish to help us all get out of our own way. To break the patterns of our past which hold us back from seeing the spectacular person we already are. I hope this helps in some way to enlighten all beautiful people who are not yet vegan to see that we can all make wonderful dishes that are easy to make, delicious, and still be kind to animals and us human beings too. Just because we always have eaten animals, does not mean that we need to carry on this practice, as it no longer serves us, or the sentient animals of our earth. Eating the beautiful things that mother earth offers us is perfectly balanced, and we need nothing else. We are cared for by her. It is said that a human meat eater will consume 7000 animals in a lifetime. Shocking isn’t it. And what a waste. We need to cease the continuation of suffering, and live in harmony with all and everything.

I hope you enjoy cooking the recipes I have personally eaten and enjoyed immensely, and even the  meat eaters that are around me all comment on how fabulous these creations are. I occasionally mention cheese and fish in this book you can choose to add it for the non-vegans, substitute it, or leave it out all-together. I invite you to enjoy the whole experience, from thinking about what to cook, growing or buying the ingredients, preparing, cooking and eating.

Before you cook, pause for a moment, breathe, and smile on the inside and out that you are about to create something beautiful. Take off your shoes and socks and ground yourself where you stand, claim this moment as it was created just for you, this place right now. Yes for you. Breathe deep into your belly.

Remember to give as you are cooking, cook with love, and become excited by the fabulous fayre you are creating for yourself, and the ones you love. All the main dish recipes will give you enough for a family, and a little more to spare for the next day, or to freeze, and heat when you are busy with all the other stuff that life throws at us, when we do not have enough time to care for ourselves like we should. We never ever need to go without.

Once you have finished cooking and when you sit down to eat, I invite you to spare a thought just before you raise your first forkful to everyone, and everything that has been beautifully aligned to bring you your fabulous, to give you the sustenance you need, all the way from the seeds, to the rain, and the sunshine, the people who harvest, transport, and who sell, and buy, and the people who cook, and the people who eat. The great circle this universe has bestowed around us to ensure we are all looked after and content always (if we choose to be). Finally spare a thought for those people who are not as fortunate as us, and how maybe in the future you may find it in your heart to support them in whichever way you can.

Here is a little food chant that I was introduced to at an ashram where I adore to go, it is great to recite in Sanskrit (the sounding patterns of our human existence) and in English or your native tongue, just before you eat.

ब्रह्मार्पणं ब्रह्म हविः ब्रह्माग्नौ ब्रह्मणा हुतम् ।
ब्रह्मैव तेन गंतव्यं ब्रह्मकर्म समाधिना ।।

Brahma Panam, Brahma Havir, Brahmagno Brahma Na Hutam,

Brahmeva Tena Gantavyam, Brahma Karma Samadhi Na,

Om Shanti Shanti Shantih

Sacred is the offering, sacred is the preparation, sacred is the offeror. The sacred will be known through actions and thoughts, peace for all & everything

I invite you to chant along with me

With effervescent light and love

Satya-Vani x

Brahmapanam. Food chant.
